Lesson 8

The Goal:

In this lesson we’re going to look at plagiarism. You will be held accountable for the definitions of it and the consequences of it should you plagiarize on any assignment in a university course. It is considered academic theft and professors take that very seriously, as does the entire academic community.

That said, these authors will look into and question plagiarism and ideas of intellectual property. Like all rules plagiarism has its issues, which we will explore and talk about. Know that as a college student you will be  expected to site and give credit to other authors.

What to Read:

  1. * “The Ecstasy of Influence: a Plagiarism‘ by Jonothan Lethem in Harper’s Magazine
  2. * “It’s Not Plagiarism. In the Digital Age, It’s ‘Repurposing’‘ a response to Lethem by Kenneth Goldsmith in The Chronicle
  3. Pp. 139-172 in  A Writer’s Reference  (Section W)
